On Friday the 18th the UHS football team wins against Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson moving them up 3-1 in district play. The score was 55-6 proving that the J-Hawks are a force to be reckoned with! Frerichs Field hosted Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson with the theme of “hick out.” Students were encouraged to wear redneck apparel to show their spirit.
Kick-off was at 7:00 p.m. The J-Hawks scored their first 27 points within the first quarter creating a sizeable lead. By the second quarter, the J-Hawks had 47 points. Council Bluffs Jefferson had yet to earn any points within the first two quarters of the game. During halftime the performance the marching band was set to play for the crowd.
“I love how the marching band contributed to the positive energy that the crowd was giving off. I am happy UHS won and I had a good time,” said Margaret Clifford a UHS Jr.
The German exchange students were welcomed to the game via the announcer. It was explained that the foreign students would be in America for the next two weeks. As a part of the halftime entertainment, the players and coaches involved in the Team J-Hawk Football Program were honored and they made their annual run from north to south across the field. At 6:45 p.m. the UHS marching band performed.
“I was entertaining and the band was very coordinated. For my first football game that was live, it was very interesting and cool,” recounted Germany exchange student Abetare Berrlia.
During the final two quarters, Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson earned six points those being there only point scored for the game. Urbandale’s final score was 55.
The high school congratulates the team on their win. The next game that the varsity UHS football will play against Ames. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. and it is senior night. Fall sports senior night will begin at 6:15 p.m. Football will be recognized first. It is a costume out so wear your Halloween costume early. Don’t forget to bring non-perishable items and canned goods to the game for the food drive. Go J-Hawks!
